I believe that the public has somewhat lost its ability to choose well for itself when it comes to food, namley because of the increased choice and mass confusion with regards nutrional value of food. The 'is this good or bad for me' mentality has led us down an uneasy path, and combined with the recession has forced many a consumer to simply buy what its cheap- which is principally goods loaded with cheap fats and sugar. I believe the public does need forcing somewhat to make better choices, too many families are living off cheap nutrionally poor food either through ignorance or economic need. Taxing junk food (chocolate, crisps, frozen ready meals) etc would be a benefit, but only if the price of frutis, vegetables and wholemeal grains for example is reduced or kept static. With regards where does it end, i believe 'basic' foods, that is things such as cream, cheese and butter should be left alone. Its the overly processed foods with ingredients we cannot pronounce ie the sugar loaded snacks and ready meals which need targeting. We need to get back to basics. I believe taxation on overly processed foods would be beneficial but only if the healthy alternative is affordable.

The author of www.fatcheese.co.uk has written an excellent article. You have made your point and there is not much to argue about. It is like the following universal truth that you can not argue with: Donald Duck was always naked but always wore a towel when getting out the shower Thanks for the info.
